Cordell Bank is an offshore mountain about 25 miles from Point Reyes, covering about 21 square miles of sea floor. This huge granite block pokes up from the edge of the continental shelf to within 120 ft of the surface, creating a nutrient-rich area where seabirds, mammals, and fish all thrive in cold waters near the sunlight. 93 million years ago it was a very different place; Cordell Bank helped mark the southern edge of the Sierra Nevada...
